Bright Blue Day — the agency where I completed a one-week summer placement.
Bright Blue Day is a creative agency based in Bournemouth. I completed a one-week summer placement there in 2022 — my first experience inside a professional studio, working alongside the design team on live briefs.
Christmas Beach Party Poster
My first brief was a poster for the company's Christmas beach party — a self-contradictory premise that made for an interesting design problem. I built a Christmas tree out of seaside objects in Photoshop: shells, buckets, rope, driftwood. The collaged approach gave it personality without feeling forced, and the warm palette played against the seaside setting in a way that felt deliberately festive without being generic.

Training Days Poster
The second task was an internal reminder for staff to complete their training modules. Significantly less glamorous — but that's agency work. I focused on masking the stock image carefully to add depth and visual interest, making the message more likely to catch attention in passing rather than being scrolled past. The goal was communication, not decoration, and I kept the layout clean enough to serve that.

What I took away
A week is short, but it was enough to get a sense of how studio work actually flows — the back-and-forth with briefs, the unglamorous jobs alongside the interesting ones, and the expectation that you deliver something usable regardless of how creative the brief is. Working on real output, for a real client, at sixteen — that mattered.
